4. Make sure you get your folic acid:
A study by the Harvard Medical School looked at the benefits of folic acid on blood pressure, and found it to be highly beneficial, particularly amongst younger women. It seemed to have a protective effect against hypertension. Younger women who took at least 1mg of folic acid a day lowered their risk of hypertension by 46%. Older women who had reasonable amounts of folic acid daily lowered their risk by 18%. The study was conducted on 156,000 nurses, 19,720 of whom had high blood pressure.
5. Blessed chocolate:
Dark chocolate, and foods and supplements that had high levels of cocoa including chocolate confectionary, cocoa sandwich filling and drinks, have been found to be associated with a lower blood pressure and reduced risk of dying from any cause in a small study conducted on 470 elderly men (they were on average 72 7ears old). The study followed them for 15 years, and those that ate more than 2.3 grams of cocoa a day had lower blood pressure than those that didn’t. Researchers believe it is the flavanol component of cocoa that provides this beneficial effect.
Before thinking this is a green light to eat lots of chocolate, you’ll need about 100 grams of dark chocolate a day to get the blood pressure benefits. That equates to an extra 500 calories per 100 grams, with an average fat content of 30%. Raw cocoa is not well taken by people when it is eaten in large amounts. The calorie and fat considerations need to be taken into account, although there are some chocolate bars out there that have a higher flavanol content.

Also, one needs to be careful while climbing up the stairs. Apart from dizziness, headache is another common side effect, which can be cured by a mild pain relief drug.
Patients also tend to feel tired and lightheaded. When taking lisinopril avoid driving, operating heavy machinery or performing hazardous tasks.
There can be oral disorders as well, which may include short term, abnormal taste and dry cough.
Symptoms to look for.
Keep a watch on swelling of legs or abdomen. Shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, are the other symptoms, which you may experience, as a result of lisinopril intake. Contact your doctor immediately, if any of these symptoms grow worse.

Patients who miss a dose of their medication should skip that dose and continue to their next dose as usual, they should not double the dose. Patients taking Norvasc can overdose. The symptoms of an over dose include dizziness, chest pain shortness of breath, coma or an unusually slow or fast heartbeat. If a patient suspects that they have overdosed on Norvasc they should immediately seek medical attention.

* Try and not to skip a dose. Even more important, do not stop taking this medicine without your doctor’s advise.
* Blood pressure should be checked regularly to make sure that Toprol is actually doing its job. Do not miss, to visit your doctor as advised.
* If you happen to need any type of surgery then inform the surgeon about taking Toprol, as it might be necessary to stop taking it for a short while.
* Toprol is usually combined with diet control and exercise programs when treating hypertension. So follow the other regimen as diligently as you take the medication.
* Hypertension has no noticeable symptoms. If you feel well then do not stop taking Toprol until your doctor says so. Unfortunately, some people need to keep taking blood pressure medication for their entire lives. However, always take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
Toprol should be stored at room temperature, in a cool and dry place. It is highly important that the use of Toprol is not cut off abruptly, without consulting a doctor first. A sudden stoppage can result in deterioration of the existing condition.
Do not drive or operate heavy machinery after taking Toprol as it can affect thinking and judgment. Alcohol is to be strictly avoided, when taking Toprol.
Since hypertension does not really have any symptoms that patients can determine on their own, it is very likely that during the course of the medication, a patient might feel so good, that the temptation to discontinue with the medication, will be strong. It is always suggested that, before making such important decisions, you consult your doctor.
